The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi, has removed the Rivers State Commandant, Micheal Ogar.

Ogar was removed over picketing of the command’s headquarters by the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

The union members on Wednesday barricaded the Olu Obasanjo Road in Port Harcourt with about 30 tankers, disrupting the corps operations and flow of traffic.

They threatened to shut down their operations nationwide, saying the NSCDC had refused to release their tankers and products seized in August 2022.

PTD informed the public that the impounded vehicles contained 130,000 litres of petrol, accusing the Rivers Command of selling the content.

A statement on Thursday by the Corps Director of Public Relations, Olusola Odumosu, announced the removal of Ogar.

The CG has constituted a committee to carry out an investigation into the blockage of the NSCDC headquarters, the spokesperson announced.

Audi vowed that under his watch, no act of indiscipline, compromise or sabotage would be condoned from anyone within and outside the security agency.

“I have given the committee a marching order to ascertain the role played by either of the parties and anyone found guilty would be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said
