Road accident claims three lives in Ogun

Three persons including two infants lost their lives in an accident that occurred on Friday morning when a Toyota car rammed into a taxi car’s rear which was parked for its passengers to disembark.

The accident which happened along Lagos – Abeokuta expressway also left seven other people, including a male child, with injuries.

Confirming the accident, Superintendent Route Commander, Florence Okpe and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Education Officer for Sector Commander, Ogun State Sector Command, Ahmed Umar, attributed the cause to excessive speed and loss of control which primed the Toyota car driver to ram into the rear of a small Micra taxi car.

Okpe identified the vehicles involved as a Nissan Micra marked AKM590YQ and a Toyota Corolla with registration number LND618FD

She added that the injured victims were taken to ARO Psychiatric Hospital and State Hospital, Ijaiye for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.

”A total of 11 persons were involved which comprised of 02 male adults, 05 female adults, 02 male children, and 02 female children.

”A total of 7 persons sustained various digress of injuries ( 02 male adults, 04 female adults, and 1 male child) while 03 persons were recorded dead from the crash ( 01 female adult, 01 male child, and 01 female child) and 01 people unhurt.

“The suspected cause of the fatal crash was excessive speed on the part of the Toyota Corolla driver who lost control and rammed into the Micra from behind as a result of speed, though the Micra vehicle was not properly parked.

‘’The injured victims were taken to ARO Psychiatric and State Hospital, Ijaye for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta,” she stated.

She quoted the Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar as advising motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations, even as he also warned on indiscriminate parking on the road and the danger involved.
