Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared four work-free days for public employees to register and pick up their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the July 30 deadline.
Beginning on Tuesday, public employees of various grades have been scheduled to take the day off for the exercise.
In a statement, Lagos Head of Service Hakeem Muri-Okunola encouraged workers to participate in the electoral process.
He informed public employees on Grade Levels 01, 03, 07, and 15 that they will be off work on Tuesday; Wednesday for GL 02, 04, 08, and 13; Thursday for GL 05, 09, 12 and 17; and Friday for GL 06, 10, 14, and 16.
“It is every citizen’s civic responsibility to participate in her country’s electoral process,” the statement says. As a result, all public servants are encouraged to vote in the upcoming general elections in 2023.
“As a result, it is notified for general information that all public servants who have yet to register for or collect their Permanent Voter Cards from designated Independent National Electoral Commission centres are strongly advised to do so before the deadline date of July 30, 2022.”
“To that end, Mr Governor has graciously approved a work-free period for public servants to process/collect PVCs from their respective Local Governments/Local Council Development Areas.”
Following this exercise, officers are expected to return to work with their voter cards.
“As a result, accounting officers are hereby directed to excuse their officers in the respective grade levels on the specified dates.”
