Senator Natasha Akpoti Responds to Fayemi’s Clarification on Harassment Allegations

Senator Natasha Akpoti, representing Kogi Central, has welcomed former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi’s clarification regarding allegations made against her during Senate proceedings. Fayemi’s statement came in response to claims by Senator Cyril Fasuyi (Ekiti North), who suggested on the Senate floor that Akpoti had previously made false harassment allegations against Fayemi during his tenure as Minister of Mines and Steel.

During the heated session, Fasuyi questioned Akpoti’s credibility as a petitioner in ongoing Senate matters, using the alleged past accusations as justification. However, Akpoti swiftly refuted these claims, taking to her official Facebook account to directly challenge Fasuyi’s statements.

“Thank you, His Excellency Kayode Fayemi, for speaking the truth. My activity during his time as a minister was strictly an advocacy to revive Ajaokuta Steel Company. Shame unto Senator Cyril Fasuyi for lying against me right in the hallowed chambers while quoting the Bible. Indeed, God is patient,” Akpoti wrote.

In response to the controversy, the Fayemi Media Office released a statement distancing the former governor from the Senate debate. Fayemi expressed his unwillingness to be drawn into the issue, stating that his past disagreements with Senator Akpoti were strictly professional, not personal. He clarified that their interactions had been based on divergent policy perspectives regarding the Ajaokuta Steel Company’s revival and had nothing to do with any allegations of harassment.

Fayemi’s clarification directly contradicts Fasuyi’s claims, reinforcing Akpoti’s position that no such allegations were ever made against him. The exchange highlights ongoing tensions in the Senate, where Akpoti has been at the center of multiple controversies in recent weeks.
