TRACKING >>The leadership of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, on Tuesday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly forward his ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation to enable him hit the ground running for the delivery of his electoral promises to Nigerians

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday shortly after the meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party, its National Chairman, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, stated that President Buhari has no excuse for delay or failure again since the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), now controlled the two Chambers of the National Assembly.

According to him, “we expect President Muhammadu Buhari to do better than he did during his first tenure as it relates to the constitution of his cabinet.

“We are expecting that in the next 30 days he should be sending the list of his ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.

“I believe he has learnt a lot of lessons and he has gotten the ropes right, I am sure he will not keep up more than necessary.

“So Nigerians are expecting that if not before the end of June or early July, his list of ministers should be with the NASS. As per the calibre of the people, we expect to see patriots, people with knowledge and who are determined to work for this country.

“We do not want ministers who just want to sit down and answer ministers. We want people with the capacity and he should ensure that those key critical areas of our development like the economy, health, housing, transportation, those ministries should be given to well-tested people who are ready to sacrifice for this nation.

“We can no longer take excuses. The President has gotten all he wanted in the National Assembly. He is controlling both chambers. He has no reason to give Nigerians excuses anymore why he will not perform or why he did not choose good and credible Nigerians, whether they are in APC or in other parties.

“Once Nigerians believe those people have the capacity to perform, he should take them on board. He is now the President of everybody. I am not unaware that there are some people in the leadership of APC who may want everything to come from APC even when they know that they do not have everything. We have tasted them for four years, the President should not go that way.”

Speaking on the outcome of the NEC meeting, he stated that the NEC frowned at any attempt to gang against the media and demanded that they should be allowed to perform their role in defence of democracy.

He added that the NEC also appreciated the contributions of the Executive and legislative arms of government on the implementation of the new National Minimum wage of N30, 000 and supported its full implementation at levels.
