Seven people have been arrested in connection with the attack on the Osun First Lady’s convoy – See details

The police in the state have charged seven people with attacking the convoy of Osun State First Lady, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, TrackNews reports

According to TrackNews, the suspects were arraigned before the Osun State Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo on Tuesday.

The First Lady’s convoy was attacked last Friday night at Owode Ede, injuring two of the governor’s wife’s aides.

“Paul Omolola (40), Rasaki Hammed (19), Soliu Waheed (21), Tiamiyu Bashiru (30), Olayiwola John (26), Mutiu Owoade (28), and Tunde Ibrahim (20) were arraigned on four counts of conspiracy, conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, unlawful damage to convoy, and assault.”

Kayode Asanbe, the police prosecutor, told the court that the seven defendants “and others at large conspired among themselves on 19th August 2022, around 8pm at Owode Market, Ede, to wit serious assault, malicious damage, conduct likely to cause breach of peace by attacking First Lady, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola’s convoy, which resulted in some of her aides suffering injuries.”

He went on to say that they stoned the First Lady’s aides Benson Oyebode and Femi Alabi and damaged three of the convoy’s vehicles.

He stated that such offenses violated sections 249 (d), 516, 451 and 356 (2) of Osun State’s criminal code cap 34 Vol. II laws of 2002.

S.A Gbenle, the defendants’ defense counsel, made an oral bail application for them after they pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

The defendant was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 by the magistrate, I. R Salami, with two sureties who must be blood relatives and civil servants.

She rescheduled the hearing for September 26, 2022.
