Nigerian singer and Nollywood actor, Chike Osebuka, has stirred conversation with his blunt views on marriage and happiness, declaring that financial stability, not matrimony, is what drives his fulfillment.
The 32-year-old artiste, popularly known simply as Chike, made the comments during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo. Known for his soulful love ballads, Chike surprised many by dismissing marriage as unnecessary, saying he does not intend to take that step anytime soon.
“In my personal opinion, I think it’s a stupid step to get married,” Chike stated, stressing that his happiness is tied to wealth rather than companionship. “For me to be happy, to be honest, I need a lot of money. This is not even carnal, I won’t lie to you, I like money. I want money.”
Reflecting on his career, Chike explained that music was not always a clear path for him. While he enjoyed singing in his early years, it was only after completing his university education that he decided to pursue music professionally. “I would say maybe right after my university, I knew music is what I’ll do for a living. I won’t say I knew before, to be honest, because I just used to sing and disturb everybody around me,” he said.
The singer also opened up about financial struggles at the start of his career, noting that he had to rely on acting jobs to sustain himself before his music gained traction. “It was a tough part, I even had to start acting for like two years,” Chike recounted.
Chike’s candid remarks have sparked reactions among fans and social media users, with some supporting his honesty about financial priorities, while others expressed disappointment over his dismissal of marriage. As one of Nigeria’s rising stars who built a career through sheer persistence, his perspective adds a personal dimension to the broader debate on love, marriage, and economic realities facing young people today.
