Nigerian singer Raoul Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has revealed that his biggest career breakthrough came after prayers he made at the Shiloh programme of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners’ Chapel, in 2013.
Skales, who once faced career stagnation after the expiration of his contract with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), disclosed this on Thursday, August 28, 2025, through a post on 𝕏. He said his career took a dramatic turn following a visit to the Shiloh programme, where he presented a heartfelt request for a global hit song.
The singer explained that he attended the programme with fellow artiste Timaya. During a session, worshippers were instructed to write down seven things they wanted God to do in their lives. According to Skales, he wrote down his request for an international hit song seven times, hoping that the repetition would emphasize his deepest desire.
He revealed that shortly after that prayer, he recorded his widely successful track Shake Body, which went on to become a defining moment in his career. Skales described the track as a “divine unending song” that continues to open doors and bring recognition, even years after its release.
Reflecting on his journey, Skales expressed gratitude to God for answering his prayers in an extraordinary way. He said that whenever people think the song has peaked, something new happens to revive its relevance, further proving to him that the success of Shake Body was not ordinary but a divine blessing.
In his post, he wrote that in 2013, after attending Shiloh with Timaya, he had asked God for one song that would reach the ends of the world. According to him, the response to that prayer came in the form of Shake Body, which became an anthem across Africa and beyond, solidifying his position in the music industry.
Before his breakthrough, Skales had struggled to find his footing after leaving EME, where he was label mates with stars such as Wizkid and Banky W. His inability to replicate the success of his peers led to questions about his future in the industry. However, the release of Shake Body marked a turning point, establishing him as a household name in Afrobeats and giving him the recognition he had long desired.
Skales also highlighted that his experience was a lesson in faith, patience, and persistence. He said the delay in his career success tested his resilience but ultimately proved to him that timing plays a crucial role in destiny. He encouraged fans and aspiring artists to trust in God’s plan and never underestimate the power of prayer.
The singer’s revelation has drawn reactions from fans and colleagues who praised him for publicly acknowledging the role of faith in his career. Many described his testimony as inspiring, noting that it sheds light on the importance of spirituality in navigating the challenges of life and career.
As Skales continues his career more than a decade after his breakthrough, he says the story of Shake Body remains a personal reminder of divine intervention. He maintained that the song’s lasting influence and its ability to keep resurfacing in global spaces are proof that it was more than just another hit record.
