A yet-to-be-identified middle-aged man on Friday, May 5, met his untimely death after he was crushed by a moving truck along the Isheri-Igando Road in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Our correspondent gathered that the accident occurred around 7pm when the deceased victim just returned from a trip.
An eyewitness, who did not want his name in print for fear of victimisation, said he was trying to cross the road at the Diamond Estate area of the community after purchasing some items when the incident happened.
The source said, “The man had just returned from a trip and was about to go into the estate where he lived when he asked his driver to stop.
“The driver parked close to the entrance of the estate gate while the man stepped out to purchase some items opposite the estate. After making the purchase, he crossed the first lane and stood on the median. By the time he was about to cross to the other side of the road, a vehicle knocked him down. It was after this that a truck coming from behind ran over him.”

The man who wore a white t-shirt and a pair of jean trousers was said to have died on the spot, while the truck sped off.

“The driver was still in the car waiting for him to return. It was when he discovered that he had taken a longer time than usual that he stepped out and saw people gathered around the spot. That was when he knew it was his employer’s corpse. His corpse was later taken to the mortuary,” the source added.
The eyewitness said the deceased victim just returned from the United States of America where his children also stay.

“He returned from the United States not quite long to join his wife who lives in the estate. He was also said to be preparing for a trip to Abuja the following day for an appointment,” he added.
