According to a report from the Punch Newspaper, A member of the National Working Committee (NWC), who preferred to remain anonymous, voiced concerns about the influence of former Governor Nyesom Wike in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The anonymous committee member suggested that unless Nyesom Wike is removed from the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s efforts to lead a strong opposition in the upcoming election cycle may be hampered.

The PDP insider explained that Nyesom Wike’s influence within the party has caused unease, stating, “There is a reason Wike is boasting, and some have claimed that the party’s leadership cannot challenge him due to financial contributions.” However, it was clarified that Wike was not the sole contributor to the party’s strength.

The anonymous committee member emphasized that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would struggle to gain control of the party if individuals aligned with Nyesom Wike continued to hold positions in the NWC, presenting a significant dilemma for the party

In response, the Deputy National Youth Leader of the PDP, Timothy Osadolor, reassured party members that Nyesom Wike’s dominance over the party would diminish. He stressed that the PDP is not Wike’s personal asset and that internal party issues would be resolved.

Osadolor also mentioned Atiku’s commitment to democratic principles and the impending ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Court, which would determine the extent of Wike’s influence. He urged patience among party members.
