Sorrow As Rain Hits Yobe, Causes Damage

Following a heavy downpour of rain, seventeen persons have been reportedly hit with different degrees of injuries in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.

The Executive Secretary of State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje, told this to Track News Nigeria in Damaturu on Sunday.

He explained that the terrible occurrence happened at the 12:30 midnight of Sunday, which led to massive flooding in communities and the collapse of many buildings in the State.

Our correspondent confined that among those injured victims were 6 adults, 7 children, as well as 4 infants as given by Dr. Goje.

“Around 12:30 Midnight of Sunday after a heavy rainfall in Damaturu, which resulted to flooding in communities behind white House and Ali Marami areas, Yobe SEMA received a distress call of building collapse with children and infants trapped in the collapse building.

“With the support of volunteers, SEMA was able to evacuate all the 17 victims from the 4 affected households.

“The victims are currently on admission and receiving medical treatment free at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu”, he said.

He praised the medical experts at the State Specialist Hospital’s Accident and Emergency unit for their relentless efforts in responding to the victims.
