Calvin Bassey Wants To Remain At Ajax Amidst Interest From EPL Clubs
Nigerian defender, Calvin Bassey, has reportedly decided that he would not leave Dutch club, Ajax this summer, amidst interest from Premier League clubs.
The Nigeria international is reportedly hesitant to leave Ajax this summer because he feels that he still has unfinished business in the Netherlands.
Last summer, Bassey eclipsed Super Eagles legend Taribo West to become the most expensive Nigerian defender in history when he signed with Ajax for a fixed fee of €23 million.
He was one of the club’s top players in the first part of last season, but once coach Alfred Schreuder left the club mid-season, he dropped down from the pecking order.
Dutch publication, Voetbal International reported that Calvin Bassey would only consider leaving the club this summer if Ajax inform him that he is no longer needed at the club.
So far this summer, the 23-year-old Nigerian defender has been linked with two Premier League clubs, Brighton and Fulham.
Brighton are considering signing Bassey to replace Levi Colwill who was on loan at the club and has returned to his parent club, Chelsea. The Premier League side have reportedly submitted a bid worth £15 million for the signature of the Nigerian.
Meanwhile, Ajax proved that Calvin Bassey is still needed at the club by playing him for 45 minutes during their pre-season game against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday which ended in a 3-0 win for the Dutch side.
