EPL: He’s disaster – Scholes names worse midfield partnership at Man United
By Adeleye Kunle
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has described his midfield partnership with former Argentine international Juan Sebastian Veron as ‘a disaster’.
During his playing days as a former England international, Scholes was widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in Europe.
The Englishman won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Champions League trophies with the Red Devils.
The former Red Devils icon said he found it difficult when the then manager, Sir Alex Ferguson did not pair him with a defensively minded midfielder.
With Scholes being combined with Veron and Anderson and the Englishman said he struggled to play alongside both players.
Veron moved to Old Trafford in a £28.1 million move from Lazio in 2001 and lasted just two seasons at the club before he was sold at a significant loss to Chelsea.
When asked to name his favoured midfield partner, Scholes said to former United teammate Gary Neville on The Overlap: “It didn’t really matter to me.
“I played with Nicky [Butt], I played with Roy [Keane] – Michael Carrick. I loved playing with all of them. It wasn’t great playing with people who [were] attacking people, I needed someone who played that [defensive] position really well
