EPL: I’m not convinced – Arsenal legend warns Arteta over signing England World Cup star
Arsenal legend, Gilberto Silva, has warned manager Mikel Arteta about going all out to sign West Ham captain, Declan Rice this summer,
Silva feels Rice is a good player, but Arsenal and Arteta need to think before spending big for the midfielder.
He noted that he is not 100% convinced that Rice’s position will be the first Arteta needs to strengthen this summer.
Rice, 24, has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City this summer.
Speaking to GOAL, Gilberto claimed that Rice can improve Arteta’s side, but the Gunners need to take their time and think about other options, insisting that the reported £120 million for the England World Cup star is very high.
The Brazilian said about Rice, “Normally, you see this sort of price for strikers, not central midfielders. It feels quite high, even though there is no doubting the quality of the player [Rice], but it does feel like a very high price.
“There have been some rumours about Arsenal before, but they seem to be increasing again. I am not 100% convinced this is the first position Mikel [Arteta] is going to strengthen first, but he [Rice] is a really strong candidate. He has done so well at West Ham [United].”
