Inter Miami Set To Sign Two Ex-Barca Players After Signing Messi And Busquets
Major League Soccer club, Inter Miami are set to host a kind of reunion for some iconic FC Barcelona players as Spain’s Jordi Alba is set to join the club.
Jordi Alba who is currently a free agent is about to join Inter Miami days after the Florida-based club confirmed the signing of former FC Barcelona players Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets.
Argentina’s 36-year-old World Cup champion Messi and Spain’s 35-year-old international Busquets were unveiled to Miami’s fans on Sunday at the club’s DRV PNK Stadium. The two Barca legends signed a two-year contract with the MLS side which will keep them at the club until 2025.
Messi, who has won the Ballon d’Or a record seven times, started working out with his new Miami teammates on Tuesday. On Friday, he will play in his first League Cup game against Cruz Azul of Mexico City.
On Tuesday, Inter Miami club president Jorge Mas said, Alba, a legendary 34-year-old full-back, has a contract with the club and will be available to play for them soon.
After more than ten years at FC Barcelona in which he scored 27 goals in 459 games, Alba left the Spanish giants when his contract with the club expired on June 30, 2023.
The Spain international helped them win six La Liga titles and the Champions League in 2015.
After the arrival of Alba, another former FC Barcelona player that might join the club is Luis Suarez, who is currently playing for Gremio in Brazil.
In his six seasons at the Nou Camp between 2014 and 2020, the former Liverpool forward played alongside Messi, Busquets, and Alba. That union might continue at Inter Miami if Suarez agrees to make the switch this summer.
