U-20 AFCON: Can Flying Eagles stop free-scoring Gambia’s Young Scorpions
Seven-time champions, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria will face their biggest test when they confront Gambia in a semi-final clash at the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations on Monday (today).
The encounter billed for the Cairo International Stadium promises to be an interesting affair.
The Gambians, who are bronze medalists at the last edition of the U-20 AFCON hosted by Mauritania, have won all their four matches in Egypt.
Abdoulie Bojang’s side have also scored nine goals without conceding.
The Young Scorpions were at their devastating best destroying debutants South Sudan 5-0 in their quarter-final fixture last Thursday.
The Flying Eagles started the competition on dour note going down to a 1-0 defeat against the Cubs of Senegal.
Ladan Bosso’s side have since recovered to win their next group games against Egypt, Mozambique and Uganda.
The team’s strength lies in their strong defence but goal scoring has been a challenge for them.
The Flying Eagles have scored a paltry four goals in four games and will need to improve on that if they are to seal in the final
