UPDATE; Igali lauds performance at 2nd Diri National Wrestling Classics

The president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation and commissioner for youth and sports Bayelsa State, Champion Baraladei Daniel Igali has lauded the performance of the Nation’s Wrestlers at the ongoing 2nd Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa.

Daniel Igali who stated while fielding questions from newsmen was upbeat that with the high level of wrestling from the various states and clubs, Nigeria will have a formidable team for the Olympics.

Champion Igali noted that the future of wrestling is bright as the level of competitiveness in the 2nd Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics has increased the odds.

According to him, despite the high profile of wrestlers who are yet to take to the mat, the tournament has lived up to its expectations.

He expressed optimism of more Classic matches as world medalist, Olympic medallist, commonwealth champions and African champions wait to entertain the people.

Igali added that Bayelsa should expect great performances from Blessing Oborodudu, Mercy Genesis, Esther Kolawale, Odunaye Adekuoroye, Amas Daniel, among others.

Meanwhile, Team Bayelsa has won Gold 5, Silver 6, Bronze 3, Team Edo 2 Gold 2 Silver and 2 bronze, Team Oyo 2 Gold 2 Silver, 2 bronze, Team Ogun Silver 2, bronze 1, Team Rivers 2 Gold 2 Silver, 3 bronze

Medals have rained for Team Ondo, Cross Rivers, Team Police, Team Nigerian Army, Team Delta Club, Team Dynamite club and Team Robinson club among other states and clubs.

Also Bayelsa’s Braveman Peremo has won his first national title at the ongoing 2nd Governor Diri National Wrestling Classics.

Braveman Peremo defeated Ayiba Sesei of Delta State 7 to 4 points in the men’s 74kg freestyle final at the indoor sports complex of Samson Siasia stadium on Tuesday.

An elated Peremo said his next target is to win a medal for Nigeria at the forthcoming African Games in Ghana.

He said the victory at the Governor Diri National Wrestling Classics has spurred him to put more effort into his training.

Peremo said, “I thank God for the victory at the National Classic. I feel excited because this is the Lord’s doing in my life; I give God the glory.

“I never dreamt of becoming a national champion soon but I had hope of winning a national championship because we’re there in life, there is hope and the word of God has manifested in my life.

“I want Nigerians to expect better performances from me; this is just the beginning of greater things. I am soliciting for the support of Nigerians to make me excel.”

“With my strength and help from gold, I am going to win a medal for Nigeria at the 2023 African Games in Ghana,” he added.
