Adeleye Kunle Reports
Freestyle wrestler Odunayo Adekuoroye has gotten married one month after she won a gold medal in women’s 57kg freestyle wrestling at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Sports journalist and administrator, Godwin Enakhena, revealed this on Saturday via Twitter as he congratulated the wrestler.
“Happy married life to Odunayo Adekuoroye. May God’s mighty Hands and presence be in this union in Jesus name,” he tweeted.
Mr Enakhena was among those who accompanied Adekuoroye to see the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu last month after the Games. Head coach of Nigeria female wrestling, Purity Akuh, also joined them.
Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat was on ground to receive them too.
Adekuoroye defeated her Indian opponent Anshu Malik 7-3 (VPO1) to secure Nigeria’s first gold medal in wrestling at the 2022 Games.
The 28-year-old Ondo indigene competed in the women’s freestyle 53 kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a gold medal and at the 2015 World Wrestling Championships where she won a bronze medal. She won the silver medal at the women’s freestyle 55 kilograms 2017 World Wrestling Championships.
