Mazi Nnamdi Kanu did not order Southeasterners to sit-at-home on October 4, 2022, or any other day he is scheduled to appear in court, according to a statement issued yesterday by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
He urged the general public to go about their normal business on the specified date.
Ejiofor went on to deny Kanu’s appearance at the Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State, next Tuesday, when a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed on his behalf is set to be heard.
This follows IPOB’s claim that People Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar lacked the ability to put an end to the Biafra agitation.
The group, which was reacting to a statement attributed to Atiku claiming he would put an end to the Biafra agitation if elected President of Nigeria, warned him not to mention its name during his campaign in any part of the Southeast.
To clarify Nnamdi Kanu’s stance on the Monday sit-in, the separatist group’s lawyer, Ejiofor, said: “Let the members of the general public be properly informed and appropriately guided, that we have the firm instruction of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to inform the public, lovers of freedom, and UmuChineke, that Onyendu will not be coming to court on the 4th day of October, 2022.”
“As a result, Onyendu did not direct, approve, or authorize anyone to declare a sit-in on that date.”
“On this date, members of the general public are advised to go about their normal business activities.”
“This clarification has become compelling and necessary in light of the avalanche of false information on social media, as well as the plethora of calls I have received from concerned UmuChineke.”
“It should also be noted that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has several lawsuits pending in various courts across the country against the Federal Government of Nigeria, her agencies, and officials.”
“For example, the main Suit challenging Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s extraordinary rendition, filed before the Federal High Court Abuja, against the Federal Republic of Nigeria & Anor, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/462/2022, and the Suit challenging the constitutionality or otherwise of the 2022 Practice Direction on the trial of terrorism offences, filed against the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court & Anor, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ
“However, please be aware that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has never approved or authorized that members of the general public be directed to sit at home on the aforementioned dates.”
In response to a statement attributed to Atiku claiming he would put an end to the Biafra agitation if elected President of Nigeria, the group warned him not to mention its name during his campaign in any part of Southeast Nigeria.
According to IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Southeast politicians should warn him not to use the Biafra agitation championed by its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for political purposes.
“Our attention has been drawn to the laughable and disgraceful statement credited to the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in Enugu State where he was ranting about how he would stop Biafra agitation if he becomes President of Nigeria,” the statement reads in part.
“The struggle for Biafra independence championed by IPOB extends beyond the zoo’s local politics.” IPOB, the world’s largest liberation movement, has a cadre of intellectuals in its leadership who are doing great things and are unstoppable by Nigeria’s criminal politicians.
“Atiku Abubakar and his corrupt political gang must understand that just because we let them into Enugu State does not mean we don’t know what to do to keep them out of Enugu State in the future.”
“As a civilized movement, we do not want to be used for corrupt election campaigns, or we will force them to stop campaigning in our territories.”
