The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared July 9 as Eid Al-Adha.

The monarch gave this decree in a statement released on Wednesday evening by the National Moonsighting Committee

Abubakar charged Muslims in the country to intensify prayers during the period.

The statement reads, “Eidul Adha will be on Saturday, 10th Zul-Hijjah 1443H (9th July 2022) In Sha Allah.

“His Eminence, The Sultan, hereby calls upon the Muslim Ummah to intensify efforts in acts of worship during the first ten days of the blessed month of Zul-Hijjah.”

Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is celebrated by Muslims all over the world as a major holiday for a period of three to four days.

The majority of Muslims will attend the special prayers held at different major mosques and Islamic centres all over the world.

Eid al-Adha honours the tale of the prophet Ibrahim and his willingness to sacrifice his son to obey God’s command.
