Following the death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni, the Lagos State Government has directed that Dowen College, Lekki be shut down indefinitely.

www.tracknews.ng had earlier reported that Sylvester Junior, a 12-years-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by his fellow students in the school for refusing to join a cult.

Perrie, an uncle to Oromoni in a post on his Twitter account disclosed that his cousin until his death was subjected to bullying, torture and harassment.

The school denied the allegations, claiming that the deceased sustained injuries while playing football and was given immediate medical attention by the school’s resident nurse, claims the family have denied.

The incident has sparked a lot of outrage with most Nigerians demanding justice for the deceased and his family.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Lagos Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, ordered the indefinite closure of the school.

The commissioner stated the state government took the decision after a meeting with the school management and staff on Friday afternoon.

Adefisayo disclosed that the reopening of the school depends on the outcome of an investigation into the death of the 12-year-old student.

She, however, called for calm, assuring Lagosians that the incident will be investigated thoroughly in order to find out what really happened.

The commissioner described the death of the 12-year-old as a shocking and sad incident while sympathizing with the family of the deceased.

Earlier, Dowen college had announced the temporary closure of the school in the wake of the controversies surrounding the death of Oromoni.

In an email sent to parents and guardians of the students on Friday, Dowen College announced that the school will be closed for two days.

The email reads: “Dear parents, in view of the current situation concerning the school and considering the emotions of the students, we have advised that our students stay home tomorrow, Friday 3rd and Monday 6th.

“This will also afford the students the opportunity to revise for their forthcoming examinations starting next week.”
