Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal said on Saturday that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, if elected in the 2023 general elections, would reopen the country’s borders.

Tambuwal, the PDP Presidential Campaign Council’s Director General, made the claim at a PDP campaign rally in the state’s Illela Local Government Area.

He claims that the PDP presidential candidate has better plans for the country.

“These include reopening the nation’s borders, addressing insecurity issues, and providing Nigerians with basic necessities of life,” he said.

The governor also stated that his administration felt strongly for the people of Illela, which had been one of the hardest hit areas by banditry attacks.

“However, despite challenges such as insecurity, economic recession, and the negative impact of COVID-19, among others,” he said.

In his remarks, the DG of the Sokoto Campaign Management Council, Alhaji Yusuf Sulaiman, urged the people of the area to vote for the PDP in order to ensure continuity in governance.

The PDP governorship candidate, Malam Sa’idu Umar, promised that if elected, his administration would give the International Market Project at Illela the attention it deserved.

Umar also stated at Kware LGA that he had a special responsibility to the people of the state as a whole.

If elected, he promised to carry on Tambuwal’s legacy by launching additional development projects.

For his part, Alhaji Mannir Dan’iya, the PDP’s Sokoto North Senatorial candidate and incumbent Deputy Governor, praised the current administration’s accomplishments in the state.

He urged the people of the state to reciprocate by voting for the PDP, noting that the 2023 budget included many development projects for Kware LGA.
