Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state, the Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organization (PCO), has denied reports that the organization has suspended its campaign.
According to Track News, speculations surfaced on Wednesday claiming that the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had suspended their campaigns in order to focus on appealing to disgruntled party members led by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
According to the report, Atiku enlisted the help of former Delta State governor James Ibori, former Senate President David Mark, and former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili to appeal to the disgruntled members.
Fear of the PDP
Tambuwal, who also serves as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and the PDP Governors Forum, responded in a statement signed by his media aide, Mohammed Bello, on Thursday, saying that the campaign train “is continuing, by the grace of God, on Monday in Kaduna.”
Tambuwual went on to say that he was “amazed and taken aback last night when I saw on social media and on many platforms that we’d called off our campaign.”
“That couldn’t be further from the truth. It is, in fact, fake news. People are excited for our visit to states, capitals, and villages because the PDP is the party to beat in 2023.
“Other parties are afraid because they haven’t begun yet” (their campaigns). None of them have formed their campaign councils, let alone begun.
“They’re attempting to send spammers to our site.”
Launch of the Uyo Campaign
In addition, the Sokoto Governor stated that the campaign team will replicate the scenario that occurred in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, where thousands of party supporters attended the presidential campaign launch.
“They will not succeed,” he predicted. It’s one of those shenanigans where you see a party doing well and its candidate outperforms yours. What you start doing is causing trouble.
“This isn’t going to work.” As I previously stated, we will run an issue-based campaign. We believe that our country is beset by enough problems.
“I support Atiku and Okowa’s candidacy.” I also believe that once there, we will do better for Nigeria, and we hope to persuade Nigerians to vote for Atiku/Okowa in February 2023.”
