TCN will not be privatized – FG debunk rumour

Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Power, stated that there is no plan to privatize the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), urging the public to disregard claims that the company is being sold.
Engineer Abubakar Aliyu, Minister of Power, made the announcement on Wednesday through his SA Media, Malam Isa Sanusi.
“This is in response to media reports and statements claiming that TCN will be privatized.
“Some of the reports even falsely claimed that the aforementioned privatization would take place in the coming months,” the ministry stated.
According to him, these reports are false and are only intended to cause panic in the power sector, which is working to ensure that Nigerians have uninterrupted power supply.
He went on to say that the federal government has no plans to sell or privatize the company, and that no government official has expressed a desire to sell the TCN.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is the focal point of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s efforts to revitalize the power sector.”
“As a result, the Ministry of Power is continuing to evaluate, assess, and upgrade TCN in collaboration with key stakeholders in order to make it more efficient and transparent,” Engr. Aliyu added.
He maintained that the government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, is committed to upgrading, stabilizing, and modernizing Nigeria’s power industry through a variety of interventions, including the Nigeria-Siemens partnership under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI).
