Ten Facts About Lagos PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Funke Akindele

The Peoples Democratic Party has selected Nollywood actress Funke Akindele as its deputy candidate for governor of Lagos State.

On Tuesday, the actress declared in a video posted to her verified Instagram page that she was running for deputy governor.

She had now been selected to serve as Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, the PDP candidate for governor of Lagos State.

She explained why she decided to run as a running mate in the video she posted on Tuesday.

1. Her Birth

Nigeria’s Lagos State, Ikorodu, is home to Funke Akindele’s birthplace. She is the middle kid of three (a boy and two girls). Her mother is a doctor, and Funke’s father is a retired school principal.

2. Is Jenifa educated?

Because of her bad usage of the English language in her popular series, “Jenifa’s journal,” many people believe the actress is uneducated.

In contrast to how she is portrayed in Jenifa’s diary, the actual Jenifa is intelligent and speaks English with ease.

In actuality, she first studied mass communication before transferring to the university to pursue law.

To begin with, Funke received her basic and secondary education at Grace Children Schools in Gbagada and at Lagos State Model College in Igbo-Kuta.

The Ogun State Polytechnic, presently called as Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, is where she earned her OND in mass communication.

She went to the University of Lagos to obtain a law degree out of a desire to advance her knowledge.

3. Birthday: What is her real age?

Husband of popular actress Funke Akindele in June announced his seperation from his wife. Abdul Bello also known as JJC Skillz said he was quitting his union with Akindele.

She welcomed their first offspring, a pair of twin boys, on December 22nd, 2018.

6. Her journey to stardom

After appearing in the well-known sitcom “I Need to Know,” which ran from 1998 to 2002 and was sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Funke Akindele gained notoriety.

Funke played the part of Bisi, a bright and inquisitive secondary school student.

When she played Jenifa in her television series “Jenifa’s Diary,” the actress increased in fame in 2008.

In July 2019, she debuted ‘Aiyetoro Town,’ a spinoff of her well-liked TV show, ‘Jenifa’s Diary.

7. She was suppose to feature in Marvel’s Avengers

There was controversy in January 2018 when it was reported that Akindele will make her Hollywood debut in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War because she was one of the cast members listed on IMDb.

She was reportedly ready to play the “guard Dora Milaje” in Infinity War, according to mainstream Nigerian media.

Though it wasn’t immediately evident why, a few weeks later her name was changed to co-actress Genevieve Nnaji.

Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, encouraged Marvel Studios to include Akindele in Infinity War in February 2018.

“Your Excellency,” a 2019 political drama film, marked Jenifa’s directorial debut.

8. The creator of Jenifa’s foundation and owner of numerous endorsement deals is Funke Akindele.

She is the founder of the non-governmental organization Jenifa’s Foundation, which supports and aids in young people’s discovery of their skills in acting, singing, and dancing.

She has numerous endorsement contracts with various companies. Vitafoam, Iroko TV, the Lagos State Inland Revenue Service, Eastern Lotto, and the sports betting company 1960 Bet are just a handful of these brands.

She secured a fresh endorsement contract with Nigerian financial institution Keystone Bank in August 2018.

She inked an endorsement agreement with Waw Nigeria, a manufacturer of detergent and bar soaps, in November 2019.

9. She was detained in April 2020 for throwing her husband’s birthday celebration during the COVID-19 lockdown when it was in effect.

After violating the lockout order, the actress and her spouse received a 14-day community service sentence.

Due to his violation of the shutdown order, Funke was appointed as the dettol ambassador.

10. Alleged abuse of workers

Recently, Cassandra, a former employee of the actress, called her out on social media.

Cassandra alleged that Funke doesn’t treat her employees like people because they are forced to work under fear and coercion.

However, following the accusation made against his employer, Funke Akindele, Tobi Makinde, better known as “Timini” in the well-known sitcom Jenifa’s diary, has defended her.

Additionally, Nosa Rex, an actor, attacked Cassandra. He stressed the need of showing gratitude to everybody who has supported you in any form.

He added that Funke is nice, devoted, and cheerful. However, she is constantly under pressure to deliver, so when required, she pushes her staff to the edge.
