The Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) has expressed concern about the high level of anxiety in Damari town of Kazage Ward in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, which has caused people to flee the community in large numbers due to ongoing terrorist attacks.

“Today, the people of DAMARI are fleeing en masse as a result of terrorist attacks that have besieged the farming community of Damari on a vengeance mission,”

Kasai, Ishaq Usman

Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) Chairman said in a statement on Friday night.

“Because of the dangerous situation and high level of insecurity in the area, women and children have been seen trekking for safety.” Around 20 vehicles were seen leaving with escapes as of 11 a.m. today.”

“The Union reported two days ago the cruel activities of terrorists and bandits in Damari and adjourned areas, killing and abducting people.”

“On Thursday, July 28th, 2022, the bandits passed through the same Damari town, shooting the air sporadically; and returned to the town in the early hours of today, July 29th, 2022, which is a Market Day, snatched motorcycles, seized money from marketers, rustled cattle, and kidnapped scores, including a grain businessman.”

“This comes after ansaru members who were thought to be “protecting” the community from armed bandits relocated to another area.

“It is in response to the recent daily recurrent attacks by armed bandits, as well as reliable information available to locals on bandits planning serious attacks against the community, which causes locals to flee the town en masse for safety.”

“At the moment, there are no security agents in the town. “In response to this disturbing situation, we are requesting that the authorities mobilize Security personnel to the community as soon as possible in order to arrest the situation,” they said.
