Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
According to a source who was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDPprevious )’s National Working Committee (NWC) during Uche Secondus’ tenure, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike invited All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains to inaugurate some of the projects he carried out “to show the world that he had capacity.”
According to Track News, Wike lost the PDP presidential nomination for the 2023 election to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in May. The Rivers governor and his supporters are believed to be disappointed that Atiku did not choose him as his running mate.
Attempts have been made to reconcile the two PDP leaders.
However, just as efforts are being made, Wike has recently begun to invite APC members to commission projects built by his administration.
In recent weeks, he has hosted several APC leaders, including House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to the source, Wike invited APC chieftains to inaugurate some of the projects he had completed to demonstrate to the world that he had capacity and a lot to contribute to the party.
“Defection to another political party is not on board,” he said.
“Wike lost the presidential ticket and the running mate position,” said the source, who played a key role in Secondus’ dismissal.
“He is requesting the position of national chairman. If Atiku is genuine, he should let Iyorchia Ayu go. If he wants to gain the trust of Wike and his supporters, he can appoint him as his chief of staff. We have a lot to offer.”
