– Obi, a former governor of Anambra, says the election should be about the survival of Nigeria

The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, on Sunday, January 13, declared that the 2019 general election is more about the survival of Nigeria rather than about the contestants.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra, said this while speaking with journalists in Amichi in Nnewi South local government area of Anambra, while speaking on the state of the nation under the three-and-half-year rule of the All Progressives Congress.

The running mate to Atiku said that Buhari had shown the lack of capacity to govern Nigeria, citing the numerous economic and security challenges facing Nigeria since the inception of his administration.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports him as urging Nigerians to use the upcoming general elections to vote out the president, saying that he should not be allowed to continue.

The former governor regretted that the nation’s teeming youths had been rendered unproductive due to lack of vision, planning and effective implementation of government policies and programmes.

“It is unfortunate that under Buhari’s APC government, Nigeria has become the poverty capital of the world.

“A situation where a quarter of Nigeria’s 2019 budget is devoted to servicing the country’s debt portends grave dange,” he said while expressing the hope that Nigeria would be made to work again, if Atiku is voted into office.

TRACKNEWS.NG earlier reported that the deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, accused Peter Obi of double standards.

Nabena, in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Wednesday, January 9, also accused the former Anambra state governor of alleged dirty deals while he was in office.
