TRACKING >Many people hear and support Biafra’s movement today without knowing the beginning of it all. Frank Opigbo has been revealed as the man that actually gave the name Biafra in 1967.
“Biafra”, the name itself taken from a Bight called the “Bight of Biafra” but changed to the Bight of Bonny immediately after the civil war by the Nigerian central government.
Please be informed again that the man who gave the name Biafra to Biafra was an Ijaw man. So all Ijaw sons and daughters are automaticaly Biafrans. All my people from the Southsouth, know today that we are all part of Biafra.
Chief Frank Opigbo, a Kalabari man from present day, Rivers State. Opigo is a kalabari, a sub category of the Ijaw ethnic group.
He graduated in 1953 as one of the first graduate from the central/western Ijaw land and later served as Assistant Registrar, Student Union.
In 1967, he became the administrator of Yenegoa Province of Biafra and the commissioner for rural development.
South-south should not take the back seat, don’t leave it for the Southeast alone.
