Following a tanker incident in the area, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has averted a major disaster in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they discovered the vehicle tilted at Ile-Iwe inward The Synagogue, Ikotun, posing a danger to the residents of the area.

“On arrival at the incident scene, an articulated truck carrying 33,000 litres of premium motor spirit (Petrol) was discovered in a precarious situation (tilted position),” he explained.

“Despite threats to the densely populated community, the transloading phase of the products into another articulated truck was successfully completed without incident following a risk assessment.”

Officials from LASEMA were joined on the ground by members of the Lagos Fire Service (Isolo division) and Nigeria Police (Ikotun division) to prevent a breakdown in law and order.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the agency’s heavy-duty equipment (Supermetro) has been dispatched for the recovery phase in order to restore traffic flow along the carriageway.

He went on to say that the truck had been recovered to a lay-by and that traffic flow had been restored.
