Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, declared yesterday that he was unfazed by false numbers and inaccurate data being cited by rival political parties in the run-up to the 2023 elections and that he did not feel threatened by them.
In addition, he insisted that, in contrast to various media reports, he and Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the party’s national chairman, do not have a falling out.
At the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Tinubu made this statement to the National Working Committee (NWC) members of the organization.
He met with Adamu for about an hour behind closed doors before spending more than two hours with other NWC members.
At precisely 2:47 p.m., Tinubu arrived at the secretariat with senior APC officials, including Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, Secretary James Faleke, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, and Governor of Ebonyi State Dave Umahi.
Following his selection as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Tinubu made his first trip to the party’s headquarters. He claimed that his meeting with NWC members was to further discuss the organization and structure of the campaign.
He said, “Yes! I freely admit that managing a democratic system is complex and very difficult. There have been difficulties everywhere we look. But being the largest country of the black race in the world, we are committed to making sure that Nigeria is completely democratic and continues to be a model of democracy.
In addition to thanking the NWC members for their hard work, Tinubu praised Adamu for his cooperation and participation in particular as well as for their frequent conversations and exchanges of knowledge.
To the rumor spreaders, he continued, “I read in some articles about a dispute between myself and the chairman, but it was a huge fiction. They were unaware of how far we had advanced. The large masquerade dances take place in the market plaza rather than the cage.
“And Adamu used to be that—full of insight. Before God brought us back together for this initiative, we served as governors together. As the party’s chairman, he would perform his duties to help me win the election for president of Nigeria. And I have a lot of faith in that.
We are a party that is steadfastly committed to realizing our aspirations of making Nigeria a very progressive, highly developed, and prosperous nation. They are free to say whatever they want and to take all the jabs they want.
When asked if he felt threatened by what he had observed regarding the tactics used by other political parties, Tinubu responded that the APC was dedicated to democratic ideals and values.
We are not in danger. We have self-assurance and are extremely proud of who we are. We conduct ourselves in an orderly manner and are dedicated to democratic values. You are aware that we do not quarrel in any way. Do the other parties allow you to say that? Can you say that about any other parties? We don’t spread fabricated data and inaccurate statistics. We are a progressive party, after all.
Adamu had earlier declared that yesterday would be his first visit to the party headquarters since Tinubu’s nomination.
