TRACKING___The management and staff of Peace Mass Transit mourn the untimely death of their driver popularly known as Daniel.
Daniel died at the University Teaching Hospital, Enugu where he was referred to for treatment after a bullet from Mr Egoli Ebiakpo’s gun pierced his neck.
A police Constable, Mr Ebiakpo, who served at MOPOL 30 in Yenagoa, had on January 6, 2020 shot a commercial bus driver and two others in front of Fidelity Bank at Ekeki in the capital of Bayelsa State.
An eyewitness, popularly known as Pastor Ken, recounts that late Daniel had arrived successfully from Onitsha to Yenagoa that fateful day.
“The driver parked in front of the bank that evening while a passenger alighted with her load.
“The angry officer pointed the nuzzle of his gun on his head while demanding for his car key.
Pastor further explained that the driver asked to know why he should hand over his car keys and immediately, the officer shot him.
“When he saw the driver bleeding, he turned and ran down the road while flagging down a tricycle.
“I shouted at the tricycle driver not to carry him, as he had just shot a man.”
He said Mr Ebiakpo succeeded and boarded a third tricycle he stopped while the driver and two other passengers were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre.
After the incident, angry mob vandalised the bank.
“That officer is used to threatening people with his gun.
“Small thing, he will cock his gun ready to shoot,” he added.
Found Guilty And Jailed
Weeping, a staff of the transport company, Mrs Ifeoma Ugwu, said she sold tickets to passengers the late Daniel drove to Onitsha that day.
“He was so happy and lively that day.
“To think he arrived successfully and was shot few poles away from our office is terrible.”
The police spokesman in the state, Mr Asinim Butswat, said the police man until his dismissal went through Orderly Room Trial on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Uche Anozia.
“After the trial, he was found guilty.
“Ebiakpo has been jailed in Okaka prison,” Mr Butswat added.
Meanwhile, at the Federal Medical Centre, 19-year-old Onyebuchi Nnabuchi, another victim of the trigger-happy cop, is still in critical condition.
