Truck driver crashes COVID-19 essential duty vehicle in Asaba

TRACKING___A reckless truck driver suspected has crashed a Toyota Corolla car with registratuon number Abuja RSH- 772 BM along Maryam Babangida Way in Asaba, just by the Appeal Court complex junction in the early of Monday.

The truck driver was said to have finished supplying blocks from the Appeal Court side of the road, crossed to the other side of the road and hit the Toyota Corolla car coming from the Okpanam Road.

Eyewitnesses said the truck driver was reckless, that he just ran into the road without minding if another vehicle was coming from the other side of the lane.

They said to immediately after the crash, the truck driver jumped out and fled.

However, the driver of the Toyota car was able to come out of tlhe destroyed car unhurt and identified himself as Clem, a member of the COVID-19 team on essential duty.

As at the time of filing this report, a police woman had taken measurement of the accident scene and about towing the truck and the Toyota car to their station.

Speaking to journalists in Asaba, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the incident, saying that the driver has been arrested and detained for further investigation.

He warned that the police will continue to arrest violators of the lockdown order, disclosing that over 20 persons who violated the lockdown were arrested in Asaba at the weekend and have been arraigned at the mobile courts.
