Flamingos coach, Bankole Olowookere, has reacted to his side’s FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup third place victory against Germany in Mumbai on Sunday.

Olowookere watched as Nigeria won their first-ever FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup bronze medals at the weekend after a 3-2 penalty kicks shootout win against Germany.

The Flamingos had surrendered a 3-0 lead in the match with penalties needed to determine the winners at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa.

Substitutes Blessing Sunday and Etim and Ajakaye scored from the spot for Nigeria, while defender Tumininu Adeshina missed.

But it didn’t matter as Pauliner Bartz missed an important kick for Germany.

Reacting, Olowookere said he was very happy that Nigeria did not leave India empty-handed.

“I’m a very happy man that we didn’t leave India empty-handed,” Olowookere said at his post-match press conference after the game.

“It has been a great tournament with a lot of lessons learnt. We give God the glory.”
