Former Jigawa State Governor and long-serving member of the PDP, Sule Lamido, has expressed disappointment over the defection of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, to the ruling party, the APC.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News Television, he claimed that Umo Eno gained his current popularity through the PDP, which he chose to hand over on a platter to the APC.
He recalled that two years ago, Umo Eno was unknown in the political scene before he was given the opportunity by the PDP to become the Governor of Akwa Ibom State. He understandably felt a sense of betrayal through this defection, at the expense of his party.
He said: “I just saw a program of the Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno. When I saw him speak, I just pitied him because he is someone who two years ago was unknown in Nigeria. He was unknown to anybody who was then honoured and dignified by PDP and made a Governor, see him talking now. Denouncing his own history and legacy is just a pity.”
Sule Lamido stated clearly that he is very ready to be part of any arrangement or coalition capable of unseating the President Tinubu-led administration in 2027. He did not approve of how the APC government seemed to have prioritized personal interests in governance over those of the Nigerian people.
