Lionel Messi’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is currently unclear.

Messi has less than three months remaining in his current contract with PSG.

The 35-year-old joined PSG from Barcelona as a free agent in the summer of 2021 after the Catalan club failed to renew his contract due to La Liga regulations.

The Argentina captain is yet to sign a new contract with the Parisians and has been linked with a return to Barcelona, a move to Saudi Pro League (SPL) and Major League Soccer (MLS), respectively.

Messi’s first season at PSG was not impressive, but his second spell at the club was far better than the first.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 18 goals and registered 17 assists across all competitions for PSG.

Despite his exploits for Christophe Galtier’s side, a majority of PSG fans are not happy with Messi’s performances for the French Ligue 1 champions.

PSG fans recently booed Messi during the team’s Ligue 1 defeat to Lyon earlier this month.

They had also booed Messi in the past this season for his performances for the team.

Some PSG fans and former players of the team believe Messi should leave the club this summer as they believe he is not giving his best for the team.

However, the Barcelona board are keen to bring Messi back to Camp Nou and also the forward has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and MLS.

Track news reports that Messi has a major decision to make at the end of the season when his PSG contract will expire in June.

The former Barcelona captain is no doubt in a dilemma as to where he could continue his football career next season.

At the moment, Messi is not getting a hundred percent love from PSG’s fans, his boyhood club Barcelona want him back, and Saudi Arabia and MLS also want him.

Speaking with Track news on the subject matter, Stanley Smart, an Abuja-based sports journalist, insisted that Messi should follow his heart regarding his future.

According to Smart, Messi deserved happiness and love at this stage of his career.

“Well, Messi has succeeded in everything in terms of football. He is currently a world champion after leading his country’s national team to win the last year’s World Cup in Qatar,” Smart said.

“I think the best thing for Messi is to follow his heart regarding his future, where he wants to continue playing his football career next season.

“He deserved happiness and love. I was not happy to see some PSG fans boo Messi during their Ligue 1 match against Lyon. I know it was not the first time the fans have done something like that this season.

“For the love of football, we are talking about one of the best in the history of the game. I think he deserves love and if he is not getting it at PSG, I think he should look for where he would be loved.

“For me personally, I would like to see Messi finish his illustrious career in Europe and not in Saudi or USA. A return to his boyhood club Barcelona would not be a bad idea. Because he is a legend at the club,” he added
