US Asks Americans In Russia To Leave Immediately

President Joe Biden led government of the United States has asked American citizens in Russia to leave immediately.

This advisory issued on Monday is coming following the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army, TrackNews reports.

“US citizens should consider departing Russia immediately via commercial options still available,” the State Department reportedly noted in a memo.

The US had previously urged its citizens not to travel to Russia amid the ongoing cold war.

Meanwhile, 130 Nigerians who fled from Ukraine have arrived at the Nigerian Embassy in Romania, TrackNews reports.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, disclosed in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Aduda stated that the embassy in Romania has also provided accommodation for the fleeing citizens while arrangements are being made to evacuate them to Nigeria.

He also disclosed that the country’s embassy in Budapest, Hungary have received and accommodated 74 Nigerians safely and have also provided shelter for them, TrackNews reports.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry official added that the Nigerians are being documented for subsequent travel arrangements back to the country.

He said another batch of about 200 Nigerians is expected in Budapest later in the day, adding that 52 persons have been received at the country’s embassy in Warsaw, Poland.

The statement reads: “130 Nigerians have been received by the country’s embassy in Romania.

“Also, officials at Budapest, Hungary have received and accommodated 74 Nigerians safely, where they are being documented for subsequent travel arrangements back to Nigeria.

“Another batch of about 200 Nigerians is expected in Budapest later in the day. 52 persons have been received in Warsaw, Poland. Of the number, 23 are being processed at the Polish Government Reception Point at Hala Kijowska.

“The camp is well organised with beds and beddings, food, heating, clothing, and medicals for evacuees.

“We assure Nigerians that all hands are on deck and arrangements are being put in place to effectively evacuate our citizens, in safety and dignity.”
