The US on Monday reported more than 100 coronavirus deaths — marking the first time fatalities hit triple digits in a single day.

The grim milestone pushed the nation’s death toll to at least 550, with New York seeing the most fatalities of any state at 157, according to a count by researchers at Johns Hopkins University.

Asked about the bleak disclosure, President Trump said he was not surprised.

“It’s going to be bad. Certainly this is going to be bad,” Trump said during the White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing.

“We’re trying to make it so it is less, less bad,” he said. “The numbers will increase with time then they will decrease.”

According to the Johns Hopkins database, there are now 43,677 cases in the US. New York, which saw its first case on March 1, now has 20,857 statewide.
