Abdullahi Ganduje, Governor of Kano State, claimed on Friday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may field a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election, TrackNews reports.
According to Ganduje, the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, was advised to choose a Muslim running mate and agreed.
The Kano State Governor made the announcement while hosting about 100 Islamic clerics at the Kano State Government House as part of Eid El Kabir celebrations this year.
“We advised him to appoint a Muslim deputy, and he agreed,” Ganduje was quoted as saying.
The Governor defended his position, claiming that a Muslim-Muslim ticket is necessary.
“A Muslim-Muslim ticket exists. It is not a new phenomenon in Nigeria.”
Governor Ganduje asked the clerics to pray for Tinubu to be elected President of Nigeria in 2023.
He also urged them to pray for the continuation of his administration’s success and for the good fortunes of his Deputy Governor, Yusuf Gawuna, who emerged as the APC governorship candidate in Kano State for the 2023 elections.
