Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Farouk Aliyu, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), confirmed on Tuesday that the ruling party is in talks with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
According to Aliyu, the APC is in talks with Wike to gain his support in the general elections in 2023.

Governor Wike and four other governors elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform have been at odds with the main opposition party.

The party’s crisis had caused Governor Wike and his allies to withdraw from the PDP’s presidential campaign.

Many Nigerians were surprised on Tuesday when the Rivers State Governor endorsed Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term against the PDP governorship candidate in the state.

Aliyu stated on Tuesday that the APC will not hesitate to accept Wike if he decides to leave.

“We’re talking to Wike,” he said. We’re talking to a lot of them. Of course, politics is involved. So, we are not Wike’s enemies, and he is a very important person in this country, a governor for that matter – and Rivers State cannot be ignored.

“So, if Wike decides to come to us, we would gladly welcome him, and I can confirm that we are in contact with him.”
