Niger State Governor, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello said the state will launch an investigation into the allegations of the presence of Helicopters during attacks on communities by bandits in the state.

He stated that initially, he found it difficult to accept the claims by people but going by recent revelations on the attack in Zungeru, he was forced to believe the allegations.

Bello said this in Minna while briefing newsmen on the 42 persons kidnapped in Government Science College in the early hours of Wednesday in Kagarar, Rafi local government area.

This was after the abduction of 21 persons in the state-owned NSTA bus on Sunday in Kundu via Yakila in Rafi council

He noted the need for the villagers to back up their claims with concrete evidence of helicopters flying around when their villages were under siege by bandits.

“Initially, I did not accept the information but later had to agree. But, then, it could be a military plane, we will need the military to give information on it. We will investigate and talk to the locals about the development of Helicopters flying during the attacks on their areas.”

“We also need the villagers to bring us something to back up their claims,” he stated.

He further explained that the state government is worried by the recent activities of bandits especially, the boldness and tenacity with which they carry out their attacks.

“Our attention is drawn to the activities of these bandits because of their boldness and tenacity. The number of bandits is increasing and until something is done fast, we will find ourselves in a very difficult situation.”

The governor, however, blamed the challenges facing the country on the failure of government at all levels over the years to tackle them properly
