TRACKING>>- The Nigerian police accuse a group, the Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, of planning treasonable acts

– The spokesperson for the police, Frank Mba, says the group has been inciting Nigerians via a video circulating on the social to join a planned revolution march against the federal government

– Mba describes the planned march as an attempt to force a regime change in the country

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, has warned that a planned revolution march organised by a group, the Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria is an act of treason and terrorism.

The Nigerian Police Force in a statement through its spokesperson, Frank Mba, on Saturday, August 3, said the group has been inciting Nigerians via a video circulating on the social to join a planned revolution march against the federal government scheduled for Monday, August 5.

Mba described the planned march as an attempt to force a regime change in the country, and noted that such an action amounted to treasonable felony and acts of terrorism.

The police spokesperson said security officials will not not stand idly-by and watch any individual or group in the society cause anarchy in the country.

“While acknowledging the rights of Nigerians to embark on protest, the Force wishes to note that such rights should not translate to a violent and forceful change of government which clearly is the meaning of ‘revolution,” he said.

“Needless to state that Nigeria is a democratic republic and has well-defined processes for change of government, exercised periodically during various cycle of elections.

The police warned the organisers, sponsors, and supporters of the group to desist from the planned demonstration as it would apply the full wrath of the law any individual or group engaged or found participating in the protest.

“The force therefore warns the organizers, sponsors, allies, supporters, associates and sympathizers of the group ‘Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria’ to, in their own interest, steer clear of any such planned protest, demonstration, acts of incitement and proposed “revolution”, as the full wrath of the law will be brought to bear on any individual or group engaged or found participating in the above planned criminal act,” the police noted.

Mba also urged parents and guardians to prevent their children and wards from being used to cause breach of law and order in the country.

Meanwhile, Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly arrested Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 elections.

According to Sahara Reporters, Sowore was picked up at his apartment in the early hours of Saturday, August 3.

The activist and convener of #RevolutionNow protests posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25am, after which someone claiming to be an eyewitness confirmed that his phone was forcefully taken from him.
