The Senator representing the Cross River State southern district, Gershom Bassey has given reasons he sponsored a bill to amend the federal constitution which has now passed third reading.

He gave the explanation on Tuesday when he presented his eight years of legislative experience as a Senator in the National Assembly.

He stated that a bill for an Act to alter the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, has also passed third reading.

According to him, when signed into law, it would give oversight powers to the National Assembly over any fund or account created for the purpose of saving excess government revenue.

He stated that he also sponsored a bill for an Act to amend the National Boundary. The Senator said it would reduce incessant interboundary skirmishes.

Bassey stated that he personally sponsored 18 Bills and co-sponsored 17 others, including a bill for an Act to amend the Nigerian Flag and Coat of Arms Act cap f30, 2006, as well as Federal College of Forestry Technology and Research, Akamkpa (establishment, etc.) bill, 2018.

He said he sponsored a bill for an act to amend citizenship and leadership training centre act, 2004 (establishment) act (amendment) bill, 2021.

He said there is also a bill for an act to amend the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (establishment) act, cap .p43; a bill for an act to establish the Chartered Institute of Professional Secretarial Staff of Nigeria and for matters connected therewith; a bill for an act to establish the Nigerian Research Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Bakassi; a bill for an act to provide for mandatory public infrastructure maintenance and for other connected purposes, 2021
