The National Trail newspapers has explained reasons why it withdrew the letter of request for information under the freedom of information act against Idris Mamman.
According to them, as a media house which focuses on human development, they are aware of the firm conviction that the privacy of citizens is sacrosanct and have a duty to safeguard it, even as they perform their lawful duties.
The withdrawal letter which was dated 16, March 2017 and signed by the editor, Aaron Ossai, further explained that their request was therefore not intended to invade the privacy of Mamman, who is a director (finance and accounts) in the Federal ministry of agriculture or expose him to public ridicule.
The letter reads, “Consequent upon your meeting with one of our directors and attendant realisation that the information we sought clarifications over may be in breach of the principles of privacy which you are entitled to as well as subject you to public ridicule if exposed.
“We wish to withdraw the letter in its entirely as well as its contents and demands and to let you know that we have halted further actions on the matter.
“We have realised that the allegations leveled against you were untrue and misleading hence this letter of withdrawal.
“While we look forward to a robust working relationship with you, the editorial board wishes to apologize for any inconveniences our letter of request may have caused you and please accept the assurances of our highest esteem.”
