Rematon Services Limited, the indigenous contractor that constructed the Bayelsa State High Court Complex, headquarters of the Judicial Arm of Government in the State, has praised Senator Douye Diri, Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, for approving the payment of the debt owed it as contract balance for the construction of the Bayelsa State High Court complex, which debt has been due for payment for more than 15 years.
In a signed statement, Arch. Pst. (Mrs.) Boma Ojokojo the widowed alter ego of Rematon Services Limited, applauded the approval by Governor Douye Diri to pay the negotiated judgment debt of N1.3 billion owed her company, which previous administrations did not pay. She hailed it as a testament of His Excellency’s rare virtues of empathy, sympathy, humility and the fear of God, for which she is grateful to the Governor.
However, Mrs. Boma Ojokolo further appeals to His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, to perfect his good work by kindly abridging the 20-months installment approved by His Excellency for payment of the said negotiated judgment debt of N1.3 billion, in order to further lesson the huge financial burden on the neck of Rematon Services Limited arising from liabilities accrued against the company as a result of the failure of the Bayelsa State Government to pay the contract debt owed it all these years, with huge interests running thereon on a monthly basis. Those colossal liabilities will consume almost the entire payment if it is spread over one year and eight months, thereby leaving the company with no tangible benefit, and watering down the impact of the good gesture of His Excellency.
The widowed contractor noted that the Bayelsa State Government had previously negotiated and agreed with her for payment of the said judgment debt in 4 installments within 6 months, with effect from December, 2024. She thus appeals to the Government to be kind enough to abridge the period of payment of the approved amount as earlier agreed. She posited that approving the payment of N1.3 billion over 20 months is akin to giving with one hand and taking back with the other hand, considering the colossal debts and liabilities upon the company, which will inflict more pain, suffering, and hardship on her and the company.
Arch. Pastor Boma Ojokojo stated that she wished to end the pending legal battle with the Bayelsa State Government and therefore appeals to the conscience of Governor Douye Diri to hear the cry of a widow who has been subjected to untold hardship these many years as a result of this debt owed her by the Government of Bayelsa State for over 15 years for a contract duly executed and commissioned. She trusts that he will have compassion on her by graciously approving the abridgment of the payment of the debt to a period not exceeding six months.
