Wike and others agree to support Atiku and pledge not to leave the party in 2023

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders have agreed to work together to ensure the success of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 general elections.
According to Track News, Governor Wike and some of his colleagues in his camp have agreed to stay in the party and work for Atiku’s victory in the upcoming election.

This resolution came after a closed-door emergency meeting on Sunday at the Rivers State governor’s lodge in Abuja.

According to Tracknews , a member of the PDP National Working Committee who spoke on the condition of anonymity, none of the party’s current or former governors are leaving.

He stated that all party leaders have resolved to work together to address any internal crises and to support the party’s presidential candidate to victory in the 2023 elections.

PDP Leaders Attend The Meeting
Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State are among those in attendance.

Former Cross River state governor Donald Duke, former Benue state governor Gabriel Suswam, former Ondo state governor Olusegun Mimiko, and former Bayelsa state governor Seriake Dickson are also in attendance.

Others include former Kogi state governor Ibrahim Idris, former Plateau state governor Jonah Jang, former Information Minister Prof. Jerry Gana, and Kano PDP governorship candidate Mohammed Abacha.

Philip Aduda, Senate Minority Leader, was also present at the meeting with members of the PDP National Assembly caucus.

The Origins of the PDP Crisis
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar received 371 votes to become the PDP’s flagbearer in May, ahead of Wike, who received 237 votes to finish second in the party’s presidential primary.

After the primary, the PDP presidential candidate named Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

This, however, caused a schism among party stakeholders, with some applauding Okowa’s selection and others objecting, claiming that Atiku should have chosen Wike, the runner-up in the primary, instead of his Delta counterpart.

To address the governor’s perceived grievances, the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BOT) established a reconciliatory committee to meet with Wike of Rivers State over the fallout of the party’s presidential primary and crisis surrounding the nomination of a running mate
