Politicians twisted his declaration, “I’m completely in charge of Rivers votes.”
Egufe Yafugborhi, PORT HARCOURT
GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike boasted on Tuesday that his widely recognized outstanding stewardship in office reflects his personal capacity and passion to deliver long-term development to the people of Rivers state and has nothing to do with his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike boasted during the Tuesday commissioning of the dualised Ogbunuabali – Eastern Bypass Road project in Port Harcourt, “Take me away from the PDP today and I will still perform.” So I’m not doing well because I’m in PDP.”
“Leadership is not about politics,” he explained. Leadership necessitates individuality. The party is simply a vehicle for you to realize your ambition, for you to tell your people, “I have this capacity, I have this quality to render services to you.”
“Because I care about my people and have committed to serving them.” Allow me to be whoever I want to be at YPP, and I will deliver. Bring me to any party and I’ll entertain. So it isn’t the party that makes you perform.”
While others use economic hardship as an excuse to avoid providing purposeful leadership and service to their people, Wike believes the same situation is a more rewarding leverage for sustaining project delivery to Rivers people.
Wike chastised Rivers politicians on Monday for misinterpreting his claim that the state was completely under his control, explaining that “some people went to school late, so they don’t understand when somebody says I am in charge of this State.”
“I never claimed to be in charge of voting in this state, but I know I can speak to my constituents and they will listen to me.” Some say I only have one vote, which I agree with. I am unable to vote twice. I will only vote once. But because of the services I have provided to the people of this state, the state will listen to me.”
The governor lifted the ban on youth activities in Ogbunuabali and released the N2 billion he promised the community, praising their cooperation during the road project after initially opposing it.
Sen Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, former Governor of Sokoto State, who inaugurated the road project, has joined a growing list of top political leaders who recognize Wike’s leadership capacity in service delivery to Rivers people.
