Wike Slams Security Operatives, Says They Are Responsible For Oil Bunkering

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has accused the army, navy, police and other security agencies of been responsible for the failure to overcome the war against oil bunkering in the state.

He alleged that the security agencies were fully involved in the crime they should be fighting against.

The governor explained that the Nigerian economy would remain vulnerable if such criminal activities, including artisanal refining of crude oil, were not duly dealt with and rectified.

Wike showed his displeasure at the situation when he donated 14 ballistic gunboats to the Navy, Army, the Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the NNS Pathfinder, Naval Base, Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area at the weekend.

According to him: “Most of the problem we have with illegal oil bunkering is that security agencies are fully involved in this illegal oil bunkering.

“That’s the truth. Civil Defence is involved. Army is involved. Police are involved. The Navy is involved. Let us tell ourselves the simple truth.”

Meanwhile, the Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has slammed Wike over his verbal attack against his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

Recall that the Rivers governor had slammed Shaibu for threatening to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the crisis rocking the Edo chapter of the party.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Eastern Bypass Road project in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike described Shaibu as an ingrate for calling out the national leadership of the party over the matter.
