Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has insisted that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu, resign.
In their call for party reconciliation, Governor Wike’s supporters also requested that Ayu’s successor be chosen.
These demands were made ahead of a meeting of a six-man committee made up of representatives from the camps of PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Wike.
According to a former member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), Atiku ensuring Ayu’s removal would demonstrate that he adheres to the inclusiveness agreement.
He went on to say that the PDP National Chairman had betrayed Governor Wike’s trust.
According to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Wike would have won the party’s presidential primary if it hadn’t been for treachery.
He urged the party to present Wike’s camp with the position of Ayu’s successor because of what they would bring to the race in 2023.
“By ensuring the removal of Ayu, Atiku can be said to have demonstrated that he can keep to the agreement of inclusiveness, trust, and avoiding any victimization of Rivers State governor supporters,” the source said.
“Dr Iyorchia Ayu has betrayed the trust of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.”
“Nigerians understand that but for treachery, Wike would have won the ticket.” Due to treachery, he lost the presidential ticket and his chances of becoming the presidential candidate’s running mate.
“Wike has been defeated twice. He wants to be a part of the presidential campaign. So, because of what we will be bringing on board, we want the position of national chairman. Wike brings a lot to the table. He is capable.”
