Following her impressive performance at the Diamond League meeting in Paris at the weekend, Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has been tipped as a medal prospect at the forthcoming World Athletics Championships Oregon22 in the United States.

Amusan at the sweltering meeting in Paris danced in triumph after finishing strongly to win the women’s 100m hurdles in an African record of 12.41, 0.02 better than her previous best.

According to World Athletics, Amusan with her outing in Paris showed that she had the gritty to claim her first global medal in Eugene.

“The 25-year-old Commonwealth champion, fourth at last year’s Olympics and at the 2019 World Championships, looks very capable of claiming a first global medal in Eugene this summer,” the World Athletics wrote.

At the Paris Diamond League on Saturday, Amusan blazed to victory with a time (12.41secs – AR) that moved her up to third in the world in 2022, only behind World leader Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (12.37s) and American Alaysha Johnson (12.40s).

The 2018 Commonwealth Games champion will be hoping to defend her title at this year’s edition in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK).

The 18th edition of the world championships will hold at Hayward Field in Eugene from July 15 to 24, being the first time that track & field’s world championships will be held in the United States with 2,000 athletes from more than 200 countries expected at the event.
